The European Lawyers Association is organising the European Lawyers Programme 2011 (ELP 2011) in cooperation with the Scottish Government and the School of Law of the University of Edinburgh.
Tuesday 16th of March 2010 (Dr. Web Master)

12 young lawyers (either working in private practice or in-house) from various European countries will have the opportunity to study the law of England & Wales and Scotland, to do a placement with a firm of solicitors or an in-house legal department as well as a mini-pupillage with an advocate or Scottish judge. You will furthermore, upon termination of the programme, have the possibility to pass the European Lawyers Aptitude Test which will allow you to qualify to practice in Scotland.

The fees/tuition for the University of Edinburgh and placements costs will be met by the Scottish Government and European Lawyers Association (ELA). Candidates will however have to pay for their own accommodation costs and living expenses. The 6 month Programme will commence early January 2011 and will run until the beginning of July 2011 (exact dates to be confirmed in due course).

If you are interested in learning more about Scots law, have been working for at least 2 years and would like to have a valuable international experience with other European lawyers then you should apply for the European Lawyers Programme 2011. As the course will be run in English, you may be required to take an English language test. The above attached candidate information and application forms have to be submitted at the latest by 1 August 2010.

The ELA in its sole discretion will pre-select a number of applicants from the applications received. The succesfully retained applicants will be invited for further interviews after which they will be informed by the ELA on whether or not they have been selected to participate to the ELP 2011. Please contact Hanif Mohamed (hanif.mohamed@dexia.com) or Christian Schroder (cschroeder@goerg.de) to obtain further information and the details of the ELA representative to whom you have to submit your respective application and candidate information forms (this will depend on your European country of residence).

(Note: the ELA, in its sole discretion, will organise the application and selection procedure for the ELP 2011 and does not have to assign any reason to any of the applicants on why their application was not retained or why they were not selected. The ELA further reserves the right to alter any of the above information, including inter alia, the right to close off the application period prior to 31 May 2010 as well as the right to cancel the ELP 2011 due to insufficient applications.)
